Living Stones serve a Living God
I Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Christ Jesus.
What is being said here? Obviously, we are not actually rocks, without life. Instead, it is referring to the solidarity we have brought forth in our lives through Christ. A rock shows strength. Jesus is called the Rock on which we stand. We become lively rocks as the adopted sons and daughters of God when we are born again. But what else is He saying here. “Built Up a spiritual house.” We don’t arrive unless we are willing, choosing, to serve God. As we begin to learn His ways and obey His laws, we come into a connection to Him that helps us offer up those spiritual sacrifices to Him. What are they?
The fruits of the Spirit are: Gal. 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance,: against such there is no law.
